Ecstasy
In the quiet spaces of the soul, biblical ecstasy is described not as a loss of control, but as a profound "displacement of the mind"—a gentle lifting away from the heavy noise of the world to be filled with the overwhelming presence of God. It is a holy stae where the ordinary senses fall away, allowing the spirit to gaze upon heavenly mysteries and feel the warmth of divine love.

This experience is often characterized by a suspension of normal consciousness, a "trance" (Greek: ekstasis) that serves as a bridge between the earthly and the divine. In these moments, the heart is not lost, but found, tucked safely into the Spirit of God to receive comfort, and peace.

The Quiet Lift of the Spirit
When we surrender our worries in prayer, God may lift our perspective beyond our current trials.
"I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in an ecstasy I saw a vision..." (Acts 11:5)

A Peace Beyond Understanding
Ecstasy is often found in the deep intimacy of worship, where the soul is "caught up" in the beauty of the Lord.
"I know a man in Christ who... was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows." (2 Corinthians 12:2)

Open Heavens
God uses these moments of spiritual height to reveal His glory and His plans for our restoration.
"The heavens were opened and I saw visions of God." (Ezekiel 1:1)

A Dwelling in the Spirit
To be "in the Spirit" is to be anchored in a place where the loud trumpets of heaven sound clearer than the whispers of earth.
"On the Lord’s day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet." (Revelation 1:10)

In summary, the biblical view of ecstasy is a soothing reminder that we are never far from the reach of God’s hand. He invites us into moments of extraordinary peace where our spirits can rest in His light, far above the reach of ordinary impressions and earthly cares.
